The Sea Galleri by Katathani – Photos and Hotel Review

One of the best part about my Thailand trips is an opportunity to explore some of the best hotels in southeast Asia at a relatively affordable price. What makes Thailand very special in this respect is the overall experience, that not only includes clean hygienic and state of the art rooms and amenities, but also the hospitality that the Thai tourism industry offers. Thai hospitality is one of the best in my experience. My stay at The Sea Galleri by Katathani in Phuket reinforces my notion of the unmatched Thai experience even further. In this blog post, I will share my experience of staying at this wonderful hotel in the vicinity of Kata Beach.

Booking The Sea Galleri by Katathani

I made the booking on Agoda, which is my preferred travel app for booking international hotels. If you are an Indian, you can also check out apps like MakeMyTrip. You can also  directly book with the hotel website. You need to do a bit of research and comparisons to figure out the best deal. Booking few weeks in advance is a good idea because you might get some attractive discount. The room that I booked was sea facing and it cost me around 4000 baht, which roughly translate to approximately10000 rupees at the time of writing this post.

The Reception

The people at the reception were cheerful and positive. The moment I got down from my taxi at the entrance of the resort, a wonderful Thai lad offered to escort me to the reception. The check in process was swift. The process was online, and within minutes, I was on my way to the room. The boy who escorted me to the room was very cheerful. Despite language barriers, we communicated well and he gave me some great tips for moving around. (The sea gallery has a labyrinth of rooms across multiple floors and its easy to lose way). He also advised me on how to get to the beach through a private access only available to the guest staying in the hotel.

My room at The Sea Galleri

The room was simply spectacular. It is difficult to capture the entire experience in words, and I will let the photographs do the talking.

Food and Room Service at The Sea Galleri

The resort has an in house restaurant, which serves excellent food. I tried the room service, and I must say that it was very impressive. The chicken and seafood fried rice are very delicious and you should definitely try it. I also tried a Thai cocktail called  ‘Mai Tai’ at my friends recommendation, an it became one of my favorite drinks – so favorite that I regularly order it now whenever I visit Thailand.

Privacy

Despite the bed being sea facing with a glass facade, you get ample privacy. There is an outdoor bath tub in the balcony, which is quietly hidden in the corner and yet located in the perfect spot to offer an exciting view of the landscapes while you soak in the warm water. However, while you may be perfectly hidden while in the outdoor bath tub, it is not a great idea to move around fully naked in the balcony. My friend convince me that it is quite safe from a privacy perspective to enjoy intimate moments on the bed with the curtains slided at night, in the backdrop of the dark hills. So jump right in. I definitely recommend this room if you are couple, honeymooner, or just friends on a casual night adventure. The place is also great for solo travelers you are looking for some peace and quite.

Tipping

Unlike some places in the world, where the staff will give awkward looks in anticipation of a tip, and sometimes even directly demand money directly, Thailand is a whole different story. The people in hospitality industry here know how to make the travelers comfortable and they seldom demand tip, at least in my multiple experience of visiting Thailand. However, if you are greatly impressed by staff’s service or simply by they behavior, it’s a good idea to give them tips. This reinforces their positive attitude even more, and helps you express your gratefulness, especially when there is a language barrier.

Note

Keep the glass window always closed, because not only this will disturb the functioning of air conditioning, it can also cause flying critters to enter your room.

I checked in as a single traveler, and had a Thai friend join me as guest. I did not pay any extra joiners fee, however the friend had to fill a form and submit ID card at the reception. For more than one guest, it is advisable to check with the hotel for their guest policy.

The hotel allows you to order items from apps like grab. I ordered some essentials like toothbrush and water from grab, and they were safely delivered to me at my doorstep.

Finding best sushi at an affordable price is always a challenge. In India, the restaurants serving good ones are usually very pricey, and there is no guarantee if you will get authentic flavors. (Trust me I had really terrible experience of ordering it in India.) The first time I tried ‘real Sushi‘ was in Bangkok,…
